Agha Hamed: Somewhere I read that America is like a big, wild, strong cow, while Iranian are trying to held her down by her neck the Japanese and Chinese are milking her. Hamed: to whom would you like to grant your prize, the one that is in front of the cow and at any time might get killed or the one that milking it with no danger awaiting him?
I cannot tell too much on Austrians temperament etc, also what you have said is most probably true. I would like to talk on this Chinese man. It goes back to the monomaniac phenomenon that we talked about not long time ago. There are some obvious reasons why he gets the grant and not you or others. Dealing with Chinese, I have realized that they are mostly monomaniacs and care a little about outside world and that is the reason they been called to having a very closed culture, just look at their Great wall. To best of my knowledge the following reasons have determined his reward. 1: Unlike our and some other cultures that is saturated with mysticism and Gnosticism, Chinese thought is very practical. Tow main Chinese philosophy Confucianism and Taoism are complementary of each others symbolized in yin and yang. Confucianism being philosophy of social organization, of common sense and practical knowledge and Taoism being somewhat earthbound spirituality. trying to find the way ( Tao) o f the nature. Unlike our Sophist--- not to be mixed up with Greek Sophists-- that ridicules reason and intellect and prefer pure emotion and thanks God even our hard line materialists carry their books in their backpacks and their poetry in their head, Chinese respect reason and practical life. 2: Large systems has more energy and more energy does more job, your Chinese friend is the product of a society of more than 1.2 Billion people and we have to expect their top ones to be a little better than the others. Think about four people having apple orchards. One is too big, the other is big and the third is average and the forth is small. Keeping everything the same, the very big orchard would have large number of the top value apples. India and China are the biggest orchards and they may produce large number of good apples, but we need to take the statistics into account. India Institute of Technology (IIT) is one of toughest institution to get in and the students have already job even before being graduated, but this comes with a high price of tens of millions of others living under extreme poverty, Big orchard might produce more good apples but also produces lots of bad ones (consider that fact that one out of four Indian truck drivers are HIV positive and system of CAST is the worse system of slavery that history have ever seen and in China there is shortage of women because in some places they kill the girls. Good news for homosexuals, pretty soon they might become majority, just kidding.)) 3: Chance and Necessity: That I mentioned a while ego. You won’t see any German or American students falling asleep while for college entrance exam but it is norm among Japanese, Indians and Chinese, the resources are limited and people compete doggedly for the resources, so top ones surface easily. 4: The Bank that offered him the grant must know his and other applicants nationality. Lets face if when they see a Chinese name, right way you think about the China that its export surplus was billions of dollars and is planning to built around 1500 (yes 1500 or even more) nuclear power plants---- remember we do not have even one and they are trying to bomb it---and a middle eastern name that are best known for exporting terrorism, they will chose the one that one day may gave them favor. The banker does not gave a damn, if you or other applicants were fluent in Western philosophy, logic, mathematics and hermeneutics, remember from thousands of signs, symbols, metaphors and metonymies the banker knows only one sign and that is dollar or Euro sign.5: Being monomaniac has its own advantage and disadvantage. A 60-watt light bulb only illuminates a room but a couple with LASER can cut steel because it is concentrated. History has not produced too many polymaths capable of performing to many tasks. I know of a Iranian man that by age 30 got his PHD in computer engineering from London and was offered a job and moved to US and got married with the most beautiful, cultured, intelligent women and after having three children she left her because he did not know anything about human relationship. I was told that while as a student in London, he knew only three places, the school, the dormitory and the cafeteria. After being kicked out of the house, the first thing he did was going to the court and giving the full custody of his children to his wife, while American spends tens of thousands of dollars and goes through very hardship trying to adopt any Romanian or Russian orphan children, he was proud to get ride of his own children.
PS: Dear Hamed: do not feel bad if you did not get the grant. Also I consider myself a very humble and frugal person but I do believe that I deserved to get not one or two but at least three or four Noble prize that I have not got any.
Note: That last one was a real joke; even Hussein Derakhshan is not that stupid to have such a claim.
Last but not the least, let me quote my favorite definition of the differences between philosopher and an expert (monomaniac) from Niels Bohr” he says” An expert is someone which starts out knowing something about some things, goes on to know more and more about less and less, and ends up knowing everything about nothing. Whereas a philosopher is someone who starts out knowing something about some things, goes on to know less and less about more and more, and ends up knowing nothing about everything.”
Hamed: pick up your choice, I have done mine.

A possible correction; I read the news on Chinese Nuclear power plant in a newspaper and number was so socking that I may have misread 150 for 1500.even 150 is a very big number for such a projects. It said US and Russians are competing the bid. Most probably my brain works off solar energy and at night its batteries go down.
